UVZone Shoe Disinfection for Production & Processing
We are proud to deliver innovative, effective, and eco-friendly shoe disinfection solutions to the livestock and food production & processing sectors.
From Farm to Packaging
Livestock Production
The UVZone® Shoe Sanitizing Station is an innovative intervention that when properly placed, enhances biosecurity throughout the livestock production process. The UVZone Shoe Sanitizing Station destroys pathogens on shoe soles, improving existing bio-exclusion, bio-containment, and bio-management strategies.
Bio-exclusion, bio-management, and bio-containment are critical to producer success. Minimizing livestock exposure to disease-causing pathogens presents challenges yet is critical to the physical and financial health of animal production facilities.
Typical protocols include:
- Controlling onsite traffic, especially from other farms.
- Ensuring deliveries, and pickups (semen, deadstock, and garbage) occur at a proper distance from the livestock.
- Reducing wildlife populations near livestock.
The execution of biosafety measures of farms varies creating a need for additional interventions to reduce bioburden. Pathogens carried and transferred into and out of livestock areas on footwear is difficult to manage due to a variety of factors. Interventions that boast high efficacy and ease-of-use are key.
The USDA FSIS is now considering additional Salmonella control regulations for Poultry Producers including a requirement that incoming flocks be tested for Salmonella before entering an establishment.
We agree with producers that new and innovative interventions to reduce pathogens throughout a facility will be more efficient and effective than testing chicks at the gate.
Cesar Corzo, DVM, MS, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Veterinary Population Medicine, University of Minnesota says,
“Our study found the UVZone Shoe Sanitizing Station is an effective and easy-to-implement new technology.
This tool should help simplify and increase biosecurity compliance in swine production facilities.”
PRRSv and PEDv Testing
The University of Minnesota Veterinary Swine Group tested the efficacy of the UVZone Shoe Sanitizing Station on 2 industry-crippling swine viruses, PRRSV and PEDV. They concluded that the inactivation of PRRSV was on average, greater than 99% on both rubber and poly-blend materials after 8 seconds. Inactivation of PEDV was on average 98.55% on rubber soles and greater than 99% on polyblend materials after 8 seconds.
Avian Influenza Testing
Researchers at the University of Minnesota recently published a comprehensive study in the journal Avian Diseases to investigate the combined efficacy of PathO3Gen Solutions’ multi-patented ultraviolet light (UV) and ozone Shoe Sanitizing Station.
The study evaluated the Station’s inactivation efficacy against 3 strains of low pathogenic avian influenza virus (LPAIV) H9N9, H4N8, and H4N6 used as surrogates for highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAIV) on various surfaces including rubber boots and polypropylene. The Station was effective in inactivating all three subtypes of AIV. On rubber boots, reductions were between 93.2% and 99%; and on polypropylene, the reductions were between 98.9% and 99.9%, indicating high efficacy.
Food Processing
A single product recall costs a food company, on average, 10 million dollars in direct costs, according to the Food Marketing Institute.
Protecting your product, facility, and workers is more important than ever – and so is ensuring that you are using safe, efficient, and proven equipment. Each person entering your facility introduces about 800,000 microbes to the environment via their shoes.
